About Solana Beach
The small coastal city of Solana Beach is located in San Diego County, and is the perfect picture of Southern California beach life. Though it is close enough to San Diego for commuters to travel to the big city for work each day, the small, charming city provides a high quality of life to all who live here. A relatively high median income within Solana Beach is reflected in the beautiful homes and affluent neighborhoods in the area.
Like much of the surrounding region, before the Spanish settlers and missionaries arrived in the area back in the late 1700s, Native Americans lived here. Both Native American and Spanish cultural influences can be found throughout Solana Beach. The most growth in Solana Beach came after World War II as many neighborhoods were built and more families began to settle in the area.
Solana Beach is known for being the first city in the country to ban the smoking of cigarettes on public beach areas. Solana Beach set itself up to be a shining example for enacting health-related policies in public spaces, and many surrounding beaches in California followed suit shortly after. This ban of public smoking on the public beaches of Solana Beach was first enforced in 2003.
Shark attacks are extremely rare, but an incident in Solana Beach made the news on one spring day in 2008. While swimming with a group not far off the coast of Solana Beach, a young man was attacked by a great white shark and was fatally injured. The attack brought negative buzz around the area, but it is important to note that several factors were in place that caused the attack, including an increase in the seal population in the area.
Since Solana Beach is a small beach community, residents do not have access to a large number of schools. Several elementary and middle schools, along with a few high schools serve the area of Solana Beach, and parents feel that their children are afforded a high quality of education. A local private school is also available to local students. For extra one-on-one help, additional resources are available to local Solana Beach students. Solana Beach tutors can meet one-on-one to help each student with their schoolwork. These tutors boast expertise in a wide range of subjects and schooling levels, and can help each student reach their educational goals. Tutoring is a great option for Solana Beach students.
