There was many a successful architect involved in the monumental structures sweeping the skyline about So Ho. Another Historic So Ho building having the sturdiness of iron and quite a nifty personality too is the E.V. Huaghwout Building. It was constructed in just a year, and the New York Times called it “the greatest China and porcelain house in the city.” It does have a bit of antique in its winsome face, was trendy, and innovative. The Huaghwout Building showcased New York City’s very first passenger safety elevator. Store patrons could rise and drop floor-to-floor, speedily, efficiently, and SAFELY!
