More than a thousand acres of land are preserved, providing a large area of natural habitat for local species to flourish.

When it comes to the great outdoors, Santee is a very popular destination for mountain bikers, boulder climbers, and golfers alike. The Carlton Oakes Golf Course has been around since the 1950s and is considered to be a high-class golf destination. The Santee Boulders bring in climbers from around the world, and the nearby Santee Lakes Regional Park and Campground is a great place to go camping. The lake is great for fishing, boating, and swimming as well.

Families love all of the local events that take place here in Santee. Each year, the Santee Wine and Bluegrass Festival takes place, bringing in wine and bluegrass enthusiasts from around the state. What’s even better is that this festival is a fundraiser, and proceeds go to local youth and recreation clubs and programs.

Two school districts are available to students in Santee; the Santee School District and the Grossmont Union School District provide a number of options from elementary school through high school. Several private and charter schools are also available to Santee residents. For students that may need a little extra help, local Santee tutors are available.
