About San Juan Capistrano
Back in the times of farmers, where everyone lived on land and depended on what they could make for survival, animals were not an uncommon sight to see. If you’ve recently been meeting with your San Juan Capistrano history tutor, then you know that these families’ survival was dependent on these animals. Nowadays we can get everything we need from a store that’s probably within walking distance, and most of us have never even seen a sheep up close! Well, in San Juan Capistrano, a few people decided that even in today’s modern world people should still get to experience farm animals, and Zoomara was born, a place for anyone and everyone to come and meet these great creatures one on one!
A couple of the animals you might get to see on the farm are horses and ponies. Horses have been used for a very long time as an integral part of farm life, and before cars were peoples’ main source of transportation. They were used for everything from moving cattle to pulling carts. Ponies were also a staple, a smaller version of their larger counterpart, these guys were stocky and good for cart pulling as well as smaller children.
You might also come across animals like llamas, alpacas, and sheep. All three of these animals have been raised historically for their wool, and you can still go out and buy yarn made from 100% wool fibers. A lesser known face is that llamas and alpacas were also sometimes used as livestock guardians, due to their bravery in the face of predators.
Pigs, chickens, and cows are also a part of this farm’s family, because what farm is complete without them? While these guys have been primarily bred for meat (and in the chickens’ case eggs), these guys live the pampered life, enjoying a delicious breakfast every morning and receiving vegetable snacks and pampering all day by the visitors that come through the doors.
If large animals aren’t your thing you can also see rabbits and guinea pigs. While not necessarily the most common sight to see on farm, these cute little fluff balls love to be pet and doted on, and will never refuse a leafy green treat if you happen to have one!
And if you’re looking for something really unique, why note check out the emu! A large flightless bird with more powerful legs then a professional kickboxer. Zookeepers are available to act as your San Juan Capistrano tutor and answer any questions you might have about these guys!
