About Palm Springs
Unlike its desert counterpart in California after whom it’s named, Florida’s Palm Springs has abundant water—from nearby beaches to inland waterways. Located in Palm Beach County, town is a relative newcomer with its incorporation in 1957. With a population of 20,000 It has a small town feeling.
Palm Springs is a good place to settle for a variety of age ranges and family configurations. There are different styles of housing that would appeal to both families and single people, from condos to rental apartments and even a resort community. Compared to other nearby communities both rentals and homes are affordably priced. Although the public school system only extends through middle school, high school students have a short ride to educational opportunities in Palm Beach.
For recreation, nearby jumping off places such as Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale offer deep sea and inland fishing, golf, sailing, and river boat dinner cruises. A short drive to Boynton Beach brings you to the 147,392 acre Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge. It includes the most northern remnant of the historic Everglades wetland ecosystem. With or without binoculars, the visitor may spot blue herons and other birds, zebra caterpillars and alligators. The Refuge’s nature trails are especially attractive in April when wildflowers are at their peak. And for those who yearn for big cats, there is Lion Country Safari not far away.
After working up an appetite walking the beach or trails at the Refuge, visitors will find that Palm Spring’s culturally diverse cuisine. Twenty-two restaurant choices include a Puerto Rican and a Caribbean restaurant, two pizza places, a Chinese wok house and several with good old fashioned down home cooking. And for a special treat, visit La Michoacana Natural. The town boasts that its ice cream is among Florida’s best, and customer reviews on Trip Advisor confirms that: “Can't believe the best ice cream in Florida comes from a Latino Ice Cream establishment. Never even knew that Ice Cream was a big deal south of the border. I don't know if they have a cow out back.”
And a final surprise about this small town: for the past 24 years, it’s been honored as a “Tree City, USA.” Come April, residents turn out for an Arbor Day celebration that includes a tree planting ceremony.
