Miami Lakes is a city located in southeastern Florida with a lot to offer. From beautiful parks to pristine lakes to preserving a “small town” feel, Miami Lakes is one of the younger cities in the county. Back in the 1960s, Miami Lakes was being planned out, accounting for decades of growth and construction. The famed planner, Lester Collins, was the former Dean of the Harvard School of Architecture, and it shows. His original concept from half a century ago continues to be used to this day, and is recognized as one of the best examples of community planning in the United States.

The thoughtful planning of Miami Lakes shows, as the city boasts many parks, tree-lined streets, and small-town atmosphere. Of course, it wouldn’t be called Miami Lakes if there weren’t any lakes, and this city has over 20 of them! The lush landscape and peaceful neighborhoods make Miami Lakes a very desirable city to live in within Miami-Dade County.

Families love living in Miami Lakes for many reasons. Not only are there a plethora of parks (over one hundred) and lakes (over twenty), but also you are just a short drive from the beach, making Miami Lakes the ideal place for outdoor recreation. Besides a gorgeous environment, Miami Lakes also boasts an extremely low crime rate, making it a wonderful place for raising children.

The location of Miami Lakes is also ideal. Just a short trip in the car will take you to Miami International Airport, perfect for those who need to travel for business (or pleasure). Another short car ride could take you to Miami Beach to the east, or the Everglades to the west. Residents really get the best of both worlds, as they maintain a “small town” feel with access to all of the big city amenities that Miami has to offer.

Miami Lakes is committed to being proactive about conserving the environment. For the tenth consecutive year, Miami Lakes was named a “Tree City USA”, and for the eighth year in a row it was awarded the “Growth Award”. Improvement and growth of local tree care is present in Miami Lakes as they have developed and grown their public parks and lakes.

An up and coming city, Miami Lakes was an “All-America City” finalist in both 2010 and 2013. Being nominated was a huge honor for the city, as All-America Cities are known for being innovative, low-crime areas that focus on community, economic growth, and education.
