About Mason
For 125 years, Mason remained a small farming community. It wasn’t until the construction of an amusement park and birth of a world tennis tournament that the town experienced large growth. Kings Island amusement park first opened in 1972 in an effort to expand Coney Island located on the banks of the Ohio River. The park featured fifteen rollercoasters, 80 rides, shows and even a water park. The park has appeared in popular sitcoms and broken records. Mason is also home to the Linder Family Tennis Center who hosts the Western and Southern Open, some of the top tennis tournaments in the world. Conveniently built near the Kings Island park, the tennis center was built in 1997 in honor of the late tennis sponsor, Carl Lindner. Both of these attractions led to the growth of the town, bringing tourists there from all over the world.
Kings Island brings many to the Mason City, but only for part of the year. The park is open from early spring until Labor Day. The park reopens in fall for Halloween themed events. The park is divided into different themed sections. The Racer has been one of the park’s most popular attractions since its opening. During the 1970s, the ride revived the worldwide interest in roller coasters. Kings Island has a theme park to appeal to everyone. Action Zone opened in 1974 as a safari themed experience with intense roller coasters and a monorail. Action Zone ditched its safari theme and focused on being an action-packed roller coaster zone 1999. Contact a tutor in your area to help you finish your studies quicker so you can go out and enjoy the park. Other sections of the park include Coney Mall, dedicated to the park's predecessor Coney Island. Planet Snoopy caters to children who visit the park and Rivertown offers a western theme for those wanting to explore a ranch style world. Many other themed sections are sprinkled throughout the park with something to appeal to everyone who visits.
For those who prefer a calmer and more physically active environment can visit the Lindner Family Tennis Center. The tennis center became the host location for the Cincinnati Masters, an annual tennis event, in 1979. Currently, the tournament is the second largest summer tennis event in the U.S. The tournament came to the Lindner Family Tennis Center after fears of flooding at its original location. Before coming to the Lindner Center, across the freeway from Kings Island Amusement Park, the tournament was held at the Coney Island amusement park. The area was prone to flooding which initiated the move of the tennis tournament and even the opening of the Kings Island a few years earlier. The original Cincinnati Masters began as far back as 1899, making it the oldest tennis tournament in the United States played in its original city. Mason offers fun for the entire family and a place where the entire world can come and compete in an old-time sport.
