About Lakewood
Lakewood, Ohio is a great community, known for being an excellent place to live and raise a family. Over the years, Lakewood has received several awards, including Top 10 Suburbs in the USA by Travel and Leisure Magazine, Best Place to Raise Your Kids by Businessweek, and Best city to live in by Scene Magazine. This proud community has offered its residents a great home; and one of its great features is the award winning Lakewood Public Library.
The Lakewood Public Library was established in 1916, and started with a mere 10,000 books. Over the decades, the library has continued to grow, expand, renovate, and improve; and today, it is home to close to half a million items that cardholders can check out. The collection even includes the works of local authors, artists, scholars, historians, filmmakers, and musicians as the library strives to broaden its collection, and support the local community. The Lakewood Public Library also has the lowest cost per circulation rate in Cuyahoga County, and is open more hours than any other library in the state.
Lakewood Public Library strives to serve the community through several programs including free concerts, films, storytimes, lectures and classes for children, adults, and seniors, and more. There are clubs to join, family programs, and even the opportunity to sit and read with a therapy dog. There are programs for children of all ages, ranging from story time to arts and crafts, to music therapy and the Lakewood Lego League. Adults can attend book clubs, workshops, and lectures, and can even attend Meet the Author events. Overall, the library strives to meet the needs of readers and learners of all ages. The Lakewood Public Library could tutor others in how to actively engage the local community.
The library has won several awards and honors, and holds a Five Star rating from the Library Journal for libraries with a budget between $1,000,000 and $4,999,999. It has been on the top ten list of Hennen’s American Public Library Ratings several times, and in 2006, it was rated number one. It was also named the Best Library by Scene Magazine, and has the Best Children’s Section at a Library according to Cleveland Magazine. These and several other distinctions, have helped the Lakewood Public Library earn and maintain their outstanding reputation.
Lakewood tutors want all students to do well in school. If your child is struggling in school, it can be frustrating and discouraging; but sometimes all you need is the right help and support. A Lakewood tutor could be the help and support that you need. Every student deserves the chance to succeed.
