With no local government, Lakewood was dependent on other cities for their amenities. It wasn’t until the late 1960s that Lakewood was incorporated, but it had a different name at the time. Finally, Lakewood was an official city, even though it already had a large population.

Local artists host exhibitions here, and many big names in the music industry come here while on tour.

A local favorite, Bear Creek Lake Park is a beautiful place to spend a day while in Lakewood. There is so much to do here, including fishing, nature walking, hiking, camping, picnicking, boating, swimming, and archery. Bring the whole family along, because there really is something for everyone.

When it comes to education options, Lakewood is home to several high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools. Families are very satisfied with the selection that they are given and feel that the quality of education is high here.
