Near the Gulf of Mexico and in close proximity to Houston you’ll find Lake Jackson, a city in Texas that got its start as a community development for the Dow Chemical Company. A well-planned city with a growing economy, Lake Jackson boasts a high quality of life for its residents.

Still one of the primary employers for the area, the Dow Chemical Company has been around for almost eighty years. Other chemical facilities and manufacturing plants are also located in the area, along with other smaller businesses. A new local development project expects to bring several thousand new residents to the area with new jobs available. The self-proclaimed “City of Enchantment”, Lake Jackson considers itself to be a great place to raise a family. With opportunity abounding and a booming economy, it’s hard to argue with that.

The Parks and Recreation Department in Lake Jackson is highly involved in making sure all of the local parks, trails, natural preserves, and open spaces are well maintained and enjoyed to the fullest extent by residents and tourists alike. With constant clean-up projects and damage remediation after tropical storms ravage the area, the Parks and Recreation Department does a great job of keeping things nice.

When it gets really hot and humid during the summer months, residents of Lake Jackson like to find ways to cool off. The Recreation Center offers a wide variety of water activities to the public, including swim lessons, water aerobics, and lifeguard training. Of course, families love to come and enjoy the open pool hours in an attempt to beat the Texas heat.

Lake Jackson Parks and Recreation Department also takes pride in all of the fun, family friendly events that it hosts throughout the year. Holiday festivals, campouts, movies in the park, blood drives, and fishing events are all local favorites. These community-building events are wonderful ways to get involved.

With plans set for future improvement, the Parks and Open Space Master Plan is Lake Jackson’s plan for bettering the local recreational parks, structures, and open spaces within the next twenty years. The city is working hand in hand with groups of involved residents who are looking for ways to better the quality of life in Lake Jackson. This will not only expand the Parks and Recreation Department facility offerings, but it will serve to improve existing facilities, helping to make Lake Jackson even better for future generations to enjoy.
