About Imperial Beach
If you go as far south as you can possibly go along the Pacific Coast of Southern California, you will find Imperial Beach. Known for being the southernmost beach of the state, Imperial Beach is warm, colorful, and always bustling with tourists. A short drive from San Diego, many residents of Imperial Beach live here and commute to work in San Diego. When it comes to beach towns, Imperial Beach does not disappoint.
Due to Imperial Beach’s close location to the border of Mexico, the cultural influence is apparent. With a large Mexican population, Imperial Beach is a great place to go to experience a “south of the border” vibe while still being just barely north of the border. Only five miles from Tijuana, you can find some of the best Mexican food in the state of California here in Imperial Beach.
Imperial Beach is known for its extremely moderate climate. Summers are warm and winters are fairly warm too, so no matter what month it is, it is usually comfortable to be outdoors in shorts and a t-shirt. For this reason, air conditioning is not common in buildings located in Imperial Beach. Imperial Beach’s proximity to the ocean helps to moderate the climate, keeping it on average ten degrees warmer than winter days in San Diego and ten degrees cooler than hot days in San Diego.
With almost four miles of beach along the Pacific Coast, Imperial Beach is a popular place to go for beach activities year-round. Beach activities including volleyball, surfing, and swimming are all popular at Imperial Beach. Some of Imperial Beach’s shoreline has been noted as some of the best places to surf in California, and draws in plenty of surfing related tourism throughout the year.
For those who have an interest in local wildlife, the National Estuarine Research Reserve is located in Imperial Beach, and provides access to many beautiful birds and other native wildlife. Many endangered birds can be found here as well. With several natural preserves within Imperial Beach, residents are taking part in preserving the natural habitat along with native wildlife and endangered species for future generations to enjoy.
When it comes to education, Imperial Beach provides a number of high quality schools to local students. Any student that may require more help in a given area can contact a local Imperial Beach tutor for one-on-one help. Local tutors provide individualized assistance, helping each student reach their educational goals.
