    About Huntingdon Valley

According to Huntingdon Valley tutors, the Forest Hills Cemetery is the resting place of United States Army private first class, and member of the “Filthy Thirteen,” John “Jack” Agnew.

The “Filthy Thirteen” were the true life inspirational characters that led to the development of the fictional 1967 American War film entitled “The Dirty Dozen.” The film centers around World War II, and specifically the planning for the D-Day invasion. Intelligence reveals that a chateau in Brittany will be the venue for an important meeting which will bring together many of the senior upper hierarchy of the German military, and the allied forces plan to eliminate the attendees of this meting in order to throw the German military into disarray and impact their ability to respond effectively to the planned D-Day attacks. It is implied that any Army members who are brought in on this mission will most likely not survive, and then the question arises who should they put forward for this heroic yet ultimately suicidal mission termed “Operation Amnesty.” They come to the conclusion that they should send highly trained yet troublesome Army members who have been sentenced to long prison sentences or death for their previous crimes. The basis for encouraging them to take part in the mission is that if they survive they will be pardoned for their shortcomings and previous dubious behavior. Enter the unapologetic band of misfits who don’t originally gel well but end up banding together, the movie shows them enduring various types of training in order to be fully prepared, and also shows how their antics and lack of respect for officers or the system ends up endangering fellow army men, and almost throws their undercover mission wide open. Ultimately the use of their unorthodox tactics confirms to the senior officers that these men will be perfect to undertake the mission. During the mission a series of unplanned errors occur and many of the men die, at the end there are just two survivors of the Dirty Dozen, and then one is accidentally killed by a stray bullet, leaving just one man who is exonerated for his crimes.

In real life Huntingdon Valley tutors emphasize that the members of the “Filthy Thirteen” were seen as troublemakers vs. actual criminals. They went about fulfilling their tasks with great precision and focus yet ultimately showed a lack of respect for their senior officers, which gave them their bad reputation. In their “Operation Amnesty” they were ordered to parachute down and destroy the bridges over the Douve River, which they accomplished. Sadly half of the men were either seriously injured, killed or captured during the mission.
