Hell’s Kitchen is a neighborhood in Manhattan, New York, that dates back to the mid 1700’s. Originally, the area was a small hamlet called Great Kill, named after three streams that ran through the area and converged into one, near present day Tenth Avenue and 40th Street. At that time, Great Kill was New York’s center for carriage making.
Carriages have become much less common in New York City, with one exception; the iconic horse-drawn carriages of Central Park. Often people wonder where those famous horses go to sleep at night. It might surprise them to know that those carriage horses live in several specially designed horse apartment buildings right along Eleventh Avenue in Hell’s Kitchen. Most of the stables in Hell’s Kitchen were built toward the end of the 19th century. But one has consistently had horses living in it since the 1860’s; with the Central Park horses moving in during the 1940’s. Each complex has specially designed ramps for horses to get to stalls on the second and even third floors. They even have special systems in place to drop the hay down from the fourth floor, and collect the manure on the first. These city horses, are extremely well cared for, and are offered every available comfort; they even have special mats under their hay to ensure that they have a soft bed to rest on. The horses have completely adapted to city life, and enjoy everything that comes with being a Central Park carriage horse.
Hell’s Kitchen’s other claim to fame is Restaurant Row. Restaurant Row is a long strip of restaurants located along West 46th street between Eighth and Ninth Avenue. In 1973, a dedication ceremony officially dubbed the area Restaurant Row; and Mayor John Lindsay said, “Where else in the world, except possibly Paris, could you get 16 of the best restaurants collected in such a short strip of land?” Today, Restaurant Row is known not only for a myriad of delicious dining options; but also for the area’s diversity. Restaurants from the Row include cuisine from the Caribbean, China, Germany, Greece, Italy, Ireland, Mexico, Thailand, Afghanistan, Argentina, Ethiopia, Peru, Turkey, India, Pakistan, and Vietnam. Each restaurant creates authentic and appetizing food, that gives visitors the chance to experience a trip around the globe. New York’s theater district could tutor other tourist spots in how to encourage diversity and support the expansion of local restaurants.
Hell’s Kitchen tutors want all students to have a healthy appetite for learning. When a student struggles in school, it can leave them feeling frustrated and discouraged; but sometimes all they need is the right help and support. Hell’s Kitchen tutors are ready and available to offer that help. Every student deserves the chance to succeed.

Families share goals and scheduling preferences through a short intake. That information becomes a learner profile. Grade Potential then introduces your profile to a professional independent tutor whose background aligns. Once the tutor accepts, you’re introduced directly and sessions can begin.
Our packages are highly customizable based on your budget, preferred session cadence, time frame, location, and a few other factors. You’ll be presented with clear pricing before you begin. We support families in choosing the session length and cadence that works best for their individual situation; no hard sales tactics and no obligation to purchase a long-term package.
Typically within 2-3 business days, depending on subject, location, and schedule availability. Urgent timelines are noted in your profile so introductions prioritize your timing.
