These early Scandinavian settlers were searching for a good place to establish themselves, and they found the soil of Ham Lake to be fertile and perfect for farming. Cattle ranches and dairy farms became popular industries in Ham Lake. Potato farming also took off, and is still popular in the area today. Many of the original farms are still in operation.
