It all began in Glendale, California, with two brothers-in-law, two separate ice cream parlors, and one crazy ice cream dream.
In 1945, Burt Baskin owned Burton’s Ice Cream Shop and Irv Robbins owned Snowbird Ice Cream, a novel store in that it offered 21 flavors. Between the two brothers individual businesses, there were six ice cream stores; this would be the foundation for what would come to be known worldwide as Baskin-Robbins. In 1953, the brothers-in-law merged their companies and expanded their flavoring offerings to a whopping 31. They wanted to build an ice cream experience that would provide customers with a variety of flavors, each made with high quality ingredients and served in a fun, happy atmosphere.
The two visionaries grew up with a love for ice cream, and in their adult years decided to capitalize on America’s love for the cold treat, as well. While the number of their stores continue to grow, the brothers-in-law knew they’d have to take measures to ensure that their high standards were continuing to be met. To do this, they require a manager who had an ownership interest in the individual store’s operation. Thus, Baskin and Robbins pioneered the concept of franchising in the ice cream industry. Burt and Irv are a great example of what people can do when they work together, and the same can be seen when students and Glendale tutors work together to achieve a common goal.
It seemed as though the brothers-in-law could do no wrong, and after they combined their separate stores, a local advertising agency advised them to find a cohesive, uniform brand under the name Baskin-Robbins. The pink and brown palette would go on to inspire the pink tasting spoons. With so many new and enticing flavors, patrons didn’t know which to choose. Enter: the pink spoons. They were created with the belief that people should be able to try any of the chain’s many flavors at not cost to the customer. As Irv Robbins, ice cream enthusiast himself said, “Not everyone likes all our flavors, but each flavor is someone’s favorite.”
By the 1960s, Baskin and Robbins had accomplished what they set out to do: create an ice cream empire. They had more than 400 stores throughout the United States, and by the 1970s their chain had gone international with stores finding homes in Japan, Saudi Arabia, Korea, and Australia.
Now, with over 1,000 unique flavors and over 2,800 locations nationwide and 5,800 across the world, a lot has changed since the brothers-in-law owned the company, but Baskin-Robbins still uses the franchise model Burt and Irv created all those years ago. It’s amazing what hard work and opportunity can make happen, which is why Glendale tutors work diligently to offer helpful opportunities to every hard-working student.

Families share goals and scheduling preferences through a short intake. That information becomes a learner profile. Grade Potential then introduces your profile to a professional independent tutor whose background aligns. Once the tutor accepts, you’re introduced directly and sessions can begin.
Our packages are highly customizable based on your budget, preferred session cadence, time frame, location, and a few other factors. You’ll be presented with clear pricing before you begin. We support families in choosing the session length and cadence that works best for their individual situation; no hard sales tactics and no obligation to purchase a long-term package.
Typically within 2-3 business days, depending on subject, location, and schedule availability. Urgent timelines are noted in your profile so introductions prioritize your timing.
