This history of this region of California is a very interesting one. Of course, before the Spanish explorers arrived to this area, Native Americans inhabited this land for thousands of years. After the Spanish explorers arrived in the 18th century, Spanish missionaries established missions throughout Southern California. Years later, the region was subdivided into land grants or "rancheros" by Mexico to entice landowners to settle here and develop the land. After the Mexican-American War and this area was claimed by the United States, the land was divided into ranches and sold to American settlers, in hopes that they would use the fertile soil and plant farms and create cattle ranches as well. One particular ranch called "Diamond Bar Ranch" was acquired by a community planning organization in the mid 1900s, and the master-planned neighborhoods that now make up Diamond Bar came into existence.

Because Diamond Bar is a master-planned community, it features well organized neighborhoods and well maintained parks and recreational facilities for residents to enjoy. Diamond Bar is primarily residential, but shopping centers are located at various locations, interspersed throughout the community for the convenience of residents. Due to its close proximity to Los Angeles, many Diamond Bar residents commute to the bigger city for work each day.

Served by two different school districts, Diamond Bar students have access to schools within the Pomona Unified School District and the Walnut Valley Unified School District.
