About Castro Valley
Castro Valley, a Bay area city of 64,000 population, still is not an incorporated city. Situated across the bay from San Francisco, and south of Oakland, it is the fifth most populous unincorporated area in California. Known for a note of individualism and free thinking, characteristic of the Old West, it’s no wonder it’s famous for its wonderful Rodeos.
Rowell Ranch Rodeo, first hosted over 90 years ago, provides exciting entertainment in Castro Valley. There’s Bareback Bronco Riding, Steer Wrestling, Tie Down Roping and Barrel Racing. Buffalo Bill Cody himself, creator of the first rodeo and Wild West Show, would have been thrilled with their rough riding skills and showmanship, still exhibiting the spirit of the Western Frontier.
In a spirit of independence, efforts to incorporate Castro Valley have been repeatedly voted down by its residents at the polls. They ride the range a bit, traveling to enticing jobs in the bay area, as they haven’t wished to develop their own area commercially. Yet, young people look forward to solid high paying jobs, and salaries are characteristically high.
Chicken ranching skills were paramount for the thriving local industry of the 1940’s and 50’s. But today, locally, Castro Valley people are more likely to be employed by the health care and social assistance industry. Medicine, science, and technology jobs entice many a young person. Grade Potential tutors can help launch the necessary skill development, and learning.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the community emphasis on maintaining local character offers a rewarding natural environment to live in. Castro Valley abounds in hills, trees, and canyon creeks. The Valley General Plan aims to preserve remaining agricultural sites, undeveloped countryside, farms, old Victorian houses, and even some still curbless streets and sidewalks.
That’s what Castro Valley is all about, holding the reins of the past while riding high on the burgeoning economic growth of the Bay area. Why not stay unincorporated, and characteristically “you” when you can still go out on the range of modern society for career growth. Only 5% of Castro Valley has been developed for commercial use. Yet resident salaries are generally in the $80,000’s. There’s much to preserve.
Castro Valley City’s tutors can help you achieve the specific academic goals that meet the high standards that go with those high salaries. Build a solid foundation in learning and continue to expand with the spirit of the West, independence and success!
