Stocked with cattle and supplies, they were on their way to meet up with General Hull and his men, when they stopped to rest in the Brownstown area. A message was sent to General Hull to inform him that about a Native American tribe lead by Shawnee Chief Tecumseh was in the area and had potentially joined up with British forces. The soldiers were worried about a raid due to the amount of supplies they had, and were requesting some back up to help them reach their location safely. General Hull agreed and sent two hundred men their direction, led by Major Van Horne. When the troops were only 3 miles way the Native American tribe attacked the army, and disoriented, the Americans retreated. While this was just a small skirmish, it showed that supply lines were insecure, and shook General Hull’s resolve.
