There are a dozen public parks and recreational facilities located within the city of Brookhaven. All of these parks are cleaned and maintained regularly by the Brookhaven Parks and Recreation Department, and families love how well kept their public green spaces are. Not only does the Parks and Recreation Department take care of these facilities, but it is also responsible for putting on community events and activities.

With a wide variety of activities, programs, and classes to offer, Brookhaven really has something for all of its residents. Bark in the Park is a popular event that promotes recreation with your canine friends, and also provides the facilitation of local pet adoption and live music. At the Briarwood Recreation Center in Brookhaven, a new popular dance class called “Dance Off and Tone Up” is available to dancers of all ages in promotion of fitness and healthy activity. Other classes similar to this are available year around at the recreation center. Brookhaven also hosts several 5k races throughout the year, many of them benefiting local charities or fitness related programs. When it comes to art, Brookhaven has a Young Rembrandts program, which is a drawing workshop for young children with an interest in art. One of the best parts about living in Brookhaven are the beautiful nature trails located throughout the city. This network of trails will take you from park to park across town. These trails are open to pedestrians and non-motorized bikes, though pedestrians have the right-of-way.
