Named for the fact that it was the location of the most northern spot along the local railroad line, Apex has a long history in the railroad industry, and is one of the oldest railroad towns in this part of North Carolina. Despite its growth and development that has provided many modern amenities, and the fact that it is within the Research Triangle region in North Carolina, Apex has held on to its small-town charm, and this is just one of the reasons why it is so beloved by its residents.

With a great Parks and Recreation Department, Apex benefits from a wide variety of local parks and community programs and events throughout the year. There are also a number of classes and programs open to the public here at the Hall Cultural Arts Center.

Walk groups, exercise classes, choir, board game groups, bridge club, knitting classes, and more can all be taken at the local Apex Community Center. When it comes to local education, Apex is served by the Wake County Public School District.
