About Anoka
The beautiful city of Anoka is located along the eastern side of the state of Minnesota. Known as the “Halloween Capital of the World”, Anoka is somewhat famous in Minnesota for hosting one of the earliest known Halloween celebrations in the early 1900s. This celebration consisted of a huge Halloween parade, and Anoka has carried on this tradition today. These days, several Halloween parades and celebrations are held throughout the city, drawing in tourists from around the country.
With settlers arriving to the area in the mid 1800s, Anoka has a rich history. Because of its geographical location along the Mississippi River, Anoka was a prime location for transportation of goods and services. During its early days, many pine logs were harvested from Anoka and shipped down the river to sawmills that were located downstream. Anoka was also known for its contributions to the Union Army during the Civil War. Many volunteers to the Union Army came from Anoka.
The city of Anoka prides itself on all of the parks and recreational facilities that it provides to its citizens. With access to the Rum River and the Mississippi River, Anoka boasts a wide variety of water-related activities, including kayaking, fishing, swimming, boating, and many other river activities.
