About Alhambra
Not far outside the city of Los Angeles, Alhambra can be found in Southern California, near the middle of Los Angeles County. This medium-sized city is known for its high quality of life in the midst of the San Gabriel Valley region. The local San Gabriel Mission draws in many local tourists to the city of Alhambra, as well as the fun and culturally unique downtown area of Alhambra. Both residents and tourists love it here, and Alhambra has a lot to offer.
The historic downtown area of Alhambra has a long and interesting history. It has long been the center of commerce for the city, and even though it has undergone a lot of change in the past several decades, it still maintains a historic feel. Recent renovations have lent way to many new restaurants and businesses opening in the area, bringing in more business and stimulating the local economy here in Alhambra.
Alhambra is known for a famous local theatre, where a young Judy Garland once performed. The Garfield Theatre was a thriving cultural center with musical and theatrical performances from the 1920s up until the early 2000s. Sadly, in its last few years, the Garfield Theatre struggled to keep its doors open, and ended up closing down. Since then, it has gone under renovation, and many concerned citizens participated in the remodel; the building has now been turned into a historical attraction with a modern twist. Now open, this building is a commercial center once again, and is home to several stores and restaurants.
Alhambra is home to a very large Asian American demographic, and as a result, many local shops and restaurants feature Asian cuisine and culture. Alhambra is also known throughout the Asian American community for its local cultural events, including the parades and festivals associated with the Lunar New Year celebrations. Asian Americans come to the area for these festivals each year, and because of its popularity, these events are often broadcast live on different national Chinese radio stations.
When it comes to school, Alhambra is served by the Alhambra Unified School District. This school district includes several public elementary schools, public middle schools, and public high schools. Several college campuses are also located in Alhambra. Students of all levels can seek out extra help from local Alhambra tutors. These local tutors can provide one-on-one help in a wide variety of subjects, helping each student reach their individual educational goals.
