Located in southwestern Dallas, Texas, DeSoto is a suburb with a unique flavor. With a community that prides themselves on their heritage and culture, DeSoto recently constructed a large monument, welcoming all who visit to the city. It takes the shape of a tower, and rises over fifty feet into the air, the word “DeSoto” down the side. Completed less than ten years ago, this tower is a testament to the love the citizens of DeSoto have for their city.

Residents of DeSoto love the city’s commitment to the arts. The city offers up grants to fund local arts projects. These grants are given with the goal of stimulating the artist community in DeSoto and showcasing local talent. Past projects that were supported by city grants include jazz concerts, art exhibitions, classes for writers, and theatrical productions. What a great way to support the arts community!

Just over a decade ago, DeSoto was honored as an “All America City”. This prestigious award is not given lightly, and recognizes communities across the nation that have faced challenges and worked together to find resolution. This award honors cities that are dedicated to their residents, in bettering the quality of living and opportunity for growth.

A local sustainability project, “Keep DeSoto Beautiful”, is an ongoing community group that works to maintain, clean, and better the parks and recreational facilities within the city of DeSoto. Its mission is to also increase awareness and appreciation for nature, and to stimulate citywide pride over keeping these beautiful green spaces in good condition for future generations.

Families love the parks in DeSoto. Beyond your run of the mill park, DeSoto also has a Recreation Center that receives high praise from its residents. This recreation center provides numerous ways to enjoy yourself while also promoting good physical health. Two gymnasiums, an indoor track, weight room, sport centers, and more can all be found at the city’s recreation center. This is a great resource for families looking for ways to get their kids involved in sports and wellness programs.

The Parks and Recreation Department of DeSoto also puts on a wide variety of special events throughout the year, providing even more ways for community members to get involved. From holiday celebrations to fishing tournaments, a wide range of festivals are held at the DeSoto Town Center (which includes the DeSoto City Hall, Recreation Center, and other city centers).
