What’s in a name? Fillmore was named after a railroad official from the Southern Pacific Railroad company. The downtown area that has been preserved in Fillmore is the same area that the railroad established back in the late 1800s. Of course, these old, historic buildings have been renovated and given new life, thanks to local business owners who have turned them into restaurants, shops, and art galleries. The downtown area of Fillmore is a tourist destination, and it’s not hard to see why!

The Parks and Recreation Department here in Fillmore is very active in the community. With a mission to provide high quality outdoor parks and recreational facilities to residents of Fillmore, along with fun classes, programs, and sports leagues to all ages, families love living here. There really is so much to do, and there is something for everyone.

There are four local parks here in Fillmore, all of which are well-maintained by the local Parks and Recreation Department. Surrounded by tall oak trees, a large fountain in the middle of Central Park Plaza has become a local landmark, and also a perfect place to host city events and festivals. Another popular local park, Two Rivers Park, has a skate park, a playground, and several sports facilities. The local Fillmore Equestrian Center is also a popular place for horse lovers in the area.

From elementary school up through high school, Fillmore provides several options for local school kids. A number of public elementary schools are available, along with one public middle school and one public high school. Several private schools and charter schools are also available, providing local parents with a number of choices when it comes to choosing what is best for their kids. For students that need extra help with their schoolwork, local Fillmore tutors are available.
