About Chandler
Chandler, Arizona is a thriving Phoenix suburb ranked by several real estate websites as one of the top five places to live in the metropolitan area. Niche.com brags that Chandler is a “diverse place for children to grow up” with nationally recognized schools. In the late 1800’s the veterinary surgeon Dr. Alexander John Chandler accumulated 18,000 acres of land south of Mesa with the intent of establishing a new community. By 1913 the town featured one of the first golf resorts in the state, but the up and down economy kept Chandler small for most of the twentieth century. In the 1990’s, however, it became one of the fastest growing cities in the nation, mostly fueled by the technology boom which brought such companies as Intel, Microchip and Motorola into town. In fact, Intel is just putting the finishing touches on its Fab 42 semiconductor factory on the southwestern edge of the city. The factory should employ up to 3,000 engineers and technicians at its peak.
Throughout the year but particularly in winter, Chandler is a great place to enjoy outdoor and recreational activities. A Grade Potential Tutor can keep you ahead of the academic curve so you can enjoy all there is to do in Chandler. For those with an interest in the equine species, the Koli Equestrian Center offers miles of scenic desert landscape for horseback riding. Both beginners and experienced wranglers are welcome to enjoy a day of trail riding. And what could be better after a day on the dusty trail than a trip to the Mesquite Groves Aquatic Center. The facility features a competitive pool, two diving boards, two water slides and a lazy river.
For hikers, South Mountain Park is just a few miles west of Chandler in Ahwatukee. The area offers several miles of easy, moderate and difficult hiking and biking trails. The Pyramid Trail begins at the trailhead on the west end of Chandler Blvd. and progresses through Saguaros, Palo Verdes and barrel cactuses up to the Gila look-out point where hikers can look north to Goat Hill and the National Trail which is the preferred trail of serious mountain bikers. Overall, South Mountain is 16,000 acres of trails, wildlife and scenic views. For those who wish to stick to the urban area, Tumbleweed Park offers picnic grounds, softball fields, playgrounds and a full-service fitness center open to the public.
Chandler demonstrates its commitment to the arts through its museum of city and valley history, its libraries and the Chandler Center for the Arts which opened in 1989 as a shared venue between the city and the Chandler School District. The Center’s website boasts that the facility is an “acoustical masterpiece” and has entertained visitors and residents alike with concerts, dance, comedy, drama and educational programs. Recently, the city approved funding for $6.7 million in infrastructure renovations and improvements to seating and air conditioning.
