The Orange County Zoo located in Orange California is located among 477 acres of a wilderness park. They focus on plants and animals that are native to the southwestern United States. You might have a chance to view animals like the black bear or mountain lion, these large and impressive predators can be found at the top of the food chain, and not something you’d want to come across in the wild! You can also see some smaller predators like the ocelot, coyote, or island fox. These guys may be smaller but don’t let their small size fool you. These are apex predators who have evolved through the years to be the best at what they do, hunt. Luckily, in the safety of the zoo you can view them up close and personal in habitats designed to mimic their natural hunting grounds.

If you’re more into aviary animals, the Orange County Zoo still has what you’re looking for. You can see the bad boys of the bird world, the bald eagle or red-tailed hawk. These guys are some of the most dangerous birds in the air, and designed to spot their prey from very high up. It’s a sight to see them doing their acrobatic performances and death defying stunts. You can also see birds like great horned owl, the night stalker, who sits quietly in the night up in the trees, waiting to spot its next meal. You can see other creatures as well like the porcupine or vulture.

When visiting the zoo, you can actually take an auditory tour, which serves as a sort of Orange tutor to teach you about the different animals you are looking at. It’s fun to hear the history and lifestyle of these creatures as you get to view them with your own eyes. This kind of learning experience is great for visual learners, and is also just a wonderful outlet to get away from the normal flow of your day and do something a little out of the box.
