About Belvedere
People who live in Belvedere, California enjoy the benefits of a tight knit community, a luxurious lifestyle, and amazing views of the San Francisco Bay. If you traveled to the area you would notice those incredible views, impressive mansions, and a bronze sculpture of Blackie the horse. What is so special about a bronze horse? Well, Blackie was once a real horse who lived a full and adventurous life; and like many of the Belvedere/Tiburon residents, Blackie moved to the peninsula to enjoy the relaxing and comfortable lifestyle.
Blackie was no ordinary horse. Born in Kansas, Blackie moved to California in his youth, and joined the Cavalry. While in the Army, Blackie spent his summers patrolling Yosemite State Park. Every spring he would be saddled up and ridden to Yosemite, and every fall he would return to his stable in Presidio. Blackie served in the Army for many years and after being discharged, he joined the Rodeo. In the rodeo, Blackie was a cutting horse. Cutting is a sport that dates back to the American wild west, when ranchers would herd cows on horseback. For the rodeo competition, a horse is required to, “cut” the herd of cows down the middle once; after completing the first, “cut,” the horse must then section off another group of cows or a single cow. This must be accomplished in under two minutes and thirty seconds. While the rider directs the horse in which cow to, “cut,” the horse is responsible for completing the task. The rider gives the original command with the reigns and can then only give the horse cues with their feet. Blackie could tutor any horse in how to be a great cutting horse. Blackie competed in these competitions until the age of twelve when he was finally retired.
Upon retirement Blackie was moved to live out the rest of his days in Tiburon, the community adjacent to Belvedere; both communities are on the Tiburon Peninsula. When Blackie moved to the area he quickly became part of the community as residents felt an instant connection to him. When he passed, artist Albert Guibara created a bronze statue in his likeness, and the statue now sits in the pasture that Blackie once roamed. Blackie lived an impressive 40 years, and continues to be remembered as an important member in the Tiburon/Belvedere community.
The Belvedere community prides itself in being a close knit community that works hard to maintain the Belvedere lifestyle and create a bright future for all of its residents. The Belvedere Tutors understand what it means to work hard to enjoy the lifestyle you desire. Belvedere tutors are ready to help you accomplish all of your goals.
