The charming city of Burlingame is located in the San Francisco bay area with the county of San Mateo. Though Burlingame’s history goes back to the middle of the 1800s, the population of Burlingame really took off after the notoriously destructive San Francisco earthquake in the early 1900s. Many residents of San Francisco who lost their homes in the terrible earthquake moved up to Burlingame and purchased land here.

You may have heard Burlingame referred to as the “City of Trees”, and its for good reason. This lush community is home to many tall, magnificent trees, of many different kinds. Some of the tallest, most recognizable are the eucalyptus groves, but there are many other types of trees here in Burlingame. Nearly twenty thousand trees are located throughout the city, and the city council issued a protective ordinance that protects these local landmarks.

If you’re in Burlingame and interested in local history and architecture from days past, you should definitely check out the Kohl Mansion. With over sixty rooms, this Tutor-style mansion is built on a huge piece of property in Burlingame. This extravagant estate includes its own rose garden, gardening facilities, athletic fields and courts, and even a place where the horses and buggy would be kept in days of old. Since its completion in the early 1900s, the Kohl Mansion in Burlingame has seen a number of uses, including use by a local convent, and now it serves as the location of Mercy High School.

Despite its relatively small size, Burlingame is home to a very large number of preschools. Nearly twenty preschools are available to Burlingame children, giving parents a wide selection when it comes to early childhood education. Many families move to Burlingame for this very reason. For older children, there are several local public, private, and charter schools available for elementary, middle school, and high school choices.
