    About Pittsburg

This fine California city of industry, settled in 1839, and named "Pittsburg" on February 11, 1911, was, in fact, so named to honor Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The two cities' shared a common steel and mining industry. That is a fact. But it had other names too, all reflective of budding industrial goals.

In 1849, Colonel Jonathan D. Stevenson laid out a town he called the New York of the Pacific. Then, it was called "New York Landing", and when it became a port for coaling, it got yet another adopted name: Black Diamond, then "Black Diamond.” Whatever you called it, there was not a doubt about its industrial aspirations. The current name of Pittsburg was proposed in 1909. True to its aspirations, the Columbia Steel plant on Loveridge Road in Pittsburg, was established in 1910. It made steel castings for the lumber and shipping industries. In 1930, Columbia became a subsidiary of the U.S. Steel Company. The plant continued to grow and change names with the growing times. But, true to its ambitions, Pittsburg, California remained an industrial steel Center, in 1999 shipping over 1.6 million U.S. tons of steel per year to customers in the Western U. S., Mexico, Canada and the Pacific Rim.

This industrial center of the west, Pittsburg, CA, USA -- is located in Contra Costa County, just 37 miles northeast from San Francisco, and just 29 miles northeast from 0akland, 60 miles from San Jose and 65 miles from Sacramento, California’s capital city. Needless to say, it has a good location for growth in industry, and has maintained that, 1800’s onward to today. Its population is currently about 71,000.

There are more than a few growing kids amongst them, and Pittsburg’s tutors help educational success grow along with its industrial prowess. Pittsburg has numerous secondary schools. It also has a two-year community college to help community youth thrive along with its thriving economy. With its Central location, and Pittsburg’s motto is “Gatway to the Delta,” Pittsburg has educational possibilities at home, and about the sea of cities near and far. Youths might take up any occupation, with industry!

Tutors Pittsburg, CA, can help students hone basic skills, and problem areas, master test-taking techniques that will enable youths to succeed in multiple choice and essay tests, and covers the wide range of college courses. The city has a prime location for career goals and expansion. Interestingly, there’s a new focus on historical awareness, and fantastic opportunities to learn in the city’s varied historical sites too.

Pittsburg’s developed its historic old town, putting over 100 million in redevelopment over the past ten years. The waterfront promenade and shops are an enticing attraction, sports and the old-town historical museum, where past meets the present. There’s a Family Room, Military Room, Bridal Room, Theater Room, and sports Hall of Fame Room. The museum, located on historic 515 Railroad Avenue, has a large collection of historical artifacts, papers and photos, many chronicling its growth in industrial prowess.

Not one to drop the baton, Pittsburg’s growth in industry abounds, with plans for a transit village to encourage mass transit, and increase housing, shopping, and businesses around Pittsburg’s-Bay Point BART terminal station. Manufacturers locate in the area, and foreign investment is invited too, true to Pittsburg’s industrial Mecca motto: “Gateway to the Delta!”
