About Long Beach
Long Beach, California is a large city wedged between Orange County and Los Angeles, California. A city of industry, Long Beach is known for its thriving port, bringing in and shipping out international commodities, as well as functioning as a stop for commercial and luxury travel. Population-dense and diverse, Long Beach has steadily grown since the second World War. As a refuge and haven in the middle of this shipping city, however, is the El Dorado Nature Center.
The El Dorado Nature Center is a 110-acre parcel of land that was created from flat farm land that was once part of Rancho Los Alamitos. The Nature Center is comprised of 2 miles of dirt trails, with pleasant views and winding paths prefect for pictures and a quiet getaway from the hustle and bustle of Long Beach. Lakes and a stream are found on the site, as well as typical animals and vegetation one would expect to find in the pleasant climate of Southern California. In fact, only indigenous plants and wildlife have been permitted to reside in the nature center, from oak woodland, riparian, chaparral, coastal sage scrub and grassland native plant communities common to the Los Angeles and Orange County regions. A variety of wildlife has made the nature center home as well, including coyotes, striped skunks, raccoons, possums, lizards, non-poisonous snakes, squirrels, rabbits and a wide range of birds including wetlands, raptor, songbird and duck species—some of these animals are found on current endangered species lists, so their presence at El Dorado is of particular importance.
Many programs and workshops are run by the nature center as well, garnering public support and the opportunity to appreciate the natural world in the middle of a sprawling urban region, packed full of people. Drawing in nature classes, Audubon clubs and appreciation groups, coastal cleanups, lecture series, and evening walks for families are all sponsored by the nature center, providing the public with a variety of activities beyond a leisurely stroll on a weekend afternoon. Child and youth programs are also offered by El Dorado, which educates young minds as well as imparting a sense of loyalty to the earth early on. Truly, there Is something for everyone at the nature park.
At its core, El Dorado Nature Center is a refuge from the challenges and stresses of day to day life in Long Beach. It may provide an education to its visitors, but it’s a place to relax and enjoy one’s surroundings more than anything else. Grade Potential tutors in Long Beach many not offer the same levels of relaxation to their clients, but they do offer refuge and comfort when students encounter challenges with their school work. The seek to educate and are highly trained to help students get back on track, but like the nature center, provide a sense of security and safety to those with whom they work.
