Hudson City is a good place for kids to grow as big and strong as an Oak Tree, residents say of their hometown, embellished with tree-lined streets. There’s many an historic building too, for youths to dig their feet in to root in the good Hudson earth. The town has a solid, historic feeling. Near its center, there is a brick Clock Tower people point out as they note the changing times. Residents want to hold back its hands a bit and preserve their small-town charm. The “Jewel,” of northeast Ohio, it’s called.

You can’t let best go less. So thought Hudson residents, when they began to observe some disturbing influences affecting their young people. Drugs and alcohol were beginning to get a hold on some youth’s lives. The schools especially wanted the kids to be alert and eager to learn. They started supportive links in counseling programs and fostered character-building activities. Hudson City Tutors offer youths help too, in basic and advanced studies, and test taking techniques. The community joined in, initiating its Hudson Community First organization. They reached out to the business community and organizations. They studied the factors that make for happy productive lives, and sought to grow success.

Some Hudson City people wrote grants; others developed programs and activities. In no time at all, the organization grew to over 250 members, sponsoring loads of positive learning and character building activities. City parks were fostered, and family activities connected through holidays, recreation and community centers. Nature was found to be one of the healthy environment factors, also educational success, self-esteem, caring and development of ones assets, goals for the youths and town.

Art classes and programs sprung up in town. Businesses focused on hiring youths and trained them in techniques and industry. As a result, America’s Promise Alliance has repeatedly named Hudson City one of the 100 Best American Communities for Young People. Its Community First organization and schools were applauded. Education plays a key role in growing success skills and self-esteem. Hudson City Tutors contribute widely. They help youths catch up when they’ve drifted off base a bit, and also teach them how to master the learning that keeps them on course.

Hudson City Schools rank high in the country, and in the top two percent of Ohio District. Youths from Hudson City have a far higher than average high school graduation rate. And over 50% go on to obtain bachelors and advanced degrees. There are excellent town schools, and being in commuting distance to the wider Cleveland metropolitan area affords countless career opportunities in virtually every area, plus top trade schools, colleges and universities.

What a start! Youth sprout from this solid quaint city, a concerned and caring family community, bridging to an abundance of opportunity.
