About South Euclid
Along the eastern border of Ohio’s city of Cleveland lies a suburb by the name of South Euclid. This happy little city has a lot to offer and the families that live here love their life. As it is a very close suburb to Cleveland, residents of South Euclid enjoy access to all of Cleveland’s big-city amenities. South Euclid boasts many beautiful local parks and a gorgeous local creek, all of which make South Euclid a wonderful place to call home.
Before the European settlers came to this part of the country, the land that is now South Euclid was once home to several tribes of Iroquois native people. This land was obtained by settlers through a treaty with a large band of tribes in the late 1700s, and became a part of the territory of Connecticut.
Back in the early 1800s, Cleveland was just beginning its own industrial revolution, and as a result, much of this area, including South Euclid, was farmland. Mining and quarrying local minerals and rocks became another big industry in the South Euclid area, as well, during its formative years. One of the biggest exports from the local quarries was a specific type of rock known as Bluestone.
Even though the population of South Euclid suffered a small decline during the Great Depression, which took a toll on many towns in Ohio, it trended in the opposite direction and experienced quite a population boom after the Depression. This was also when Cleveland experienced an increase in industrialization, and business was booming in the big city. Many families decided to leave Cleveland for a safer, quieter life in many of Cleveland’s suburbs, including South Euclid. This was one reason for South Euclid’s postwar growth spurt.
South Euclid is served by the South Euclid-Lyndhurst City School District, which includes a few public elementary schools, a public middle school, a public junior high school, and a public high school. There is also one private school within South Euclid, as well as a private college, Notre Dame College. For students of any age attending any of the local schools in South Euclid, local tutors that also live in South Euclid are available to help. These local tutors can help struggling students work through their problem areas and ultimately achieve educational success. Families that live here in South Euclid feel great about the quality of education provided to students locally.
