You might be wondering how North Olmsted got such a unique name! Well, "Olmsted" was taken from the last name of a naval captain that purchased the piece of land. Before it was named North Olmsted, the community had the name of Kingston, and then Lenox. In the 1820s, the residents had a vote and everyone agreed to change the name of this community to North Olmsted, in honor of the Olmsted family, who continued to be very involved in bettering the community in various ways throughout their time living there.

One of North Olmsted's claims to fame in the state of Ohio is its local regional transit system. The North Olmsted Municipal Bus Line has historic importance because it was one of the first of its kind in United States transit history! The North Olmsted Municipal Bus Line was formed in the early 1930s and functioned for over seventy years until it was purchased by the Cleveland transit system.
