    About Pontiac

Pontiac grew due to its central location, which also benefitted from the proximity of the Clinton River. Many nearby cities and townships did not have this ready water supply and therefore did not grow or advance as fast. Initially, as with most neighborhoods nearby, the land use was primarily agricultural. The location of the river was advantageous for farming and grooming livestock. The river location was also useful for generating power for those whose living was made from wool or flour mills, as the river generated power for these mills to run more efficiently.

Advancements in industry changed the city of Pontiac for good with the arrival of the motorcar. No doubt if you had heard the name Pontiac before it was due to it being the name of the famous GM car (produced up until 2009). Pontiac tutors underline that the car was named after the city and not vice versa. The advancements in technology that led to the generation of electricity was what made these giant car-manufacturing plants possible.

Pontiac tutors tell us that the generation of hydroelectric power is a relatively simple principle. A river flows from its source of origin, normally up in the mountains towards the sea or ocean. When a dam is built in a river; this makes the water built up on one side of the dam, as the river’s water can no longer freely flow to the ocean. The purpose of a manmade dam is to harness the energy of the flowing water. When the water is released via a manmade channel leading from the dam it moves quickly through the channel where a turbine is located. This fast moving water turns the turbine, and the turbine spins. The spinning turbine is part of a generator, which harnesses the energy from the spinning.. There are other means via which hydroelectricity can be extracted without the use of a dam but this necessitates a strong moving current in the river. If the river moves fast enough there is no need to create a blockage, as the natural stream of the water can be strong enough to power the turbine when the waters direction is controlled through a channel.

Pontiac was soon untouched as the leader of development in the ‘car’ industry. The abundant local resources and well-timed well-maintained and well-organized factories were churning out cars that were incredibly popular with the public. As cars became more affordable, more cars were produced, and as more cars were produced the individual units became even more affordable. The first signs of set back were seen during the years of the Great Depression, but the industry proved bullet proof and after the monetary injection to veterans post war was evident they all wanted cars to transport them from homes to work and industry continued to grow from strength to strength.
