Englewood, Florida is a small community located on the beautiful west coast of the Sunshine State. The founders of Englewood moved to the area with the hope of creating a prosperous community. Unfortunately their great ideas, ambitions, and plans were doomed with bad luck. What we know now is that Englewood is exactly what the founders were looking for; a beautiful thriving community that attracts people from all over.

The Nichols Brothers moved to Florida hoping to make their fortune selling real estate. They found a great spot and began building Englewood, named after their hometown in Illinois. At the time, scurvy and influenza were prevalent across the country, and doctors used lemons as the most common cure. The problem was that lemons were only being grown overseas and exporting them was expensive. The Nichols brothers decided to plant lemon groves and sell off portions with each property. Buyers could make a profit selling lemons, making the land a great investment. Not only would this help the Nichols brothers sell, it would potentially help the medical field as well.

Unfortunately, this fool-proof plan was foiled by Mother Nature. Two frozen years in a row wiped out any possibility of growing lemons; which also ruined any hope of selling land based on prospering lemon groves. Once the brothers realized the trees wouldn’t work, they had to find another way to motivate buyers. They owned an incredible piece of property with beaches, islands, and breathtaking views, so why not make Englewood a tourist attraction. The brothers built an Inn right in the middle of town and advertised Englewood as a great spot for fun in the sun. The Nichols brothers could tutor other entrepreneurs in flexibility and adaptability. For a while, this idea seemed like it was going to work. Many tourists came to visit and loved the beautiful beaches and exciting water sports; but again the Nichols brothers would succumb to fate. A fire burned down their vacation destination inn and if that wasn’t bad enough, the railroads expanded their routes making other vacation spots much easier to access. The Nichols brothers could no longer keep up and were forced to end their attempt to build a town.

The good news is that the Nichols brothers were on the right track; they just couldn’t overcome everything that went wrong. Englewood was and is a great spot to enjoy the best of Florida's beauty and fun. The town blossomed on its own, because of the beauty, beaches, water sports, and sunshine that still attracts visitors from all over. Englewood tutors don’t want to see any student give up on their dreams.
