About Greenacres
Greenacres began in in the 1920s during the Florida Land Boom. Now it is one of 38 cities located in Palm Beach County Florida. Post World War I, many families finally had the time and money to travel. More families had cars. Florida, with its year round pleasant weather became a very popular destination. Many families were looking for land and homes to buy rather than expensive resorts. With this in mind, Greenacres founder L.C Swain acquired 320 acres of land around 1923. He incorporated the City of Greenacres in 1926 and gave it the city motto: A Good Place To Live. Swain's initial plans for Greenacres featured 10 acres set aside for a county school and town use with an emphasis on affordable homes for middle class families. 90 years later Greenacres remains a city that is true to its roots. Family and education are driving forces here.
The city calendar is full of events that reflect the city's rich cultural life. Food Truck Invasion happens on the last Wednesday of every month in Community Park. Visitors can sample everything from egg rolls, to barbeque, and lemonade to kebabs. There is something for everyone to enjoy. One of the largest annual events in Greenacres is Fiesta De Pueblo/ 3 Kings Day. Three Kings Day takes place every January. The event celebrates the incredible diversity of Hispanic culture. traditional festivals in Latino culture which take place in the town square. The goal is to promote greater understanding of culture through music, food and art. The event features parades, entertainment, folklore, fund raising, and regional food and crafts.
